Community Programs Clinical Therapist

Summary of Responsibilities:

The Community Programs Clinical Therapist (CPCT) is responsible for the provision of wraparound, comprehensive clinical service to youth and their families. The CPCT will have a caseload that will include family, individual, and group therapy for youth in Community Programs and maintain a productivity average set by the DCP to be reviewed annually.

  • This includes provision of multifamily group, individual, family, group therapies, crisis intervention, discharge planning, interdisciplinary teamwork, case management, and community liaison.
  • The CPCT is the directing clinician for treatment which includes assisting in the development of treatment plan and implementation of appropriate treatment strategies for students and their families.
  • The CPCT provides related clinical consultation to ensure that all compliance standards are met in the provision of treatment.  
  • On-call services are also a part of this position.
  • The CPCT is expected to abide by all safety rules and regulations of the agency, Joint Commission, and OCS licensing. 
  • The responsibilities are carried out according to AK Child and Family policies, the AK Child and Family mission, and the AK Child and Family philosophy of care in addition to the standards of the Joint Commission and the regulations of the State of Alaska.
  • The CPCT assumes additional duties as assigned.

The mandate requires that by 2/14/22, staff at all health care facilities must have received their first dose of a 2-shot series (Moderna or Pfizer, currently) or a single dose of a 1-shot vaccine (Johnson and Johnson, currently) with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate. Staff must complete this step before they can provide any care, treatment or other services for the facility and/or its patients. By 3/15/22, all staff with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate, must complete the primary vaccination series.

  • $48,000-$55,000 DOE & Licensure
  • Bonus in the amount of 1.5% of annual salary after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period and another at the 1-year anniversary.
  • Annual raises are based on the annual budget and not guaranteed each year.

Supervision and Coordination of Services:
  • The CPCT reports to the Director of Community Programs. 
  • The CPCT assists the DCP in coordinating clinical services within program parameters.
  • The CPCT adheres to the ethics of the professional body of which s/he belongs to.
  • The CPCT collaborates and coordinates services with all staff during supervision, department staff meetings and established committees.
  • The CPCT actively participates in agency performance improvement activities.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • The CPCT must have experience working with emotionally disturbed children, adolescents and their families; knowledge of psychiatric diagnosis and assessment, children/adolescent development, family systems, separation and loss, physical/sexual abuse, and trauma are essential.
  • CPCT must have demonstrated ability to complete comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, and group therapy;
  • Ability to provide written and oral communication in English, possess positive interpersonal skills and effective leadership skills;
  • Flexible schedule;
  • Excellent time management;
  • Timely and accurate documentation;
  • Computer skills (Word);
  • Demonstrated understanding and sensitivity to serving a culturally diverse and/or special needs population;
  • Requires a valid drivers license, insurance, and the ability to travel within the community.

 Education and Experience:

  • The CPCT must have a Masters degree in psychology, social work, counseling, or child guidance with specialization or experience in mental health from an accredited school; or be a licensed marital and family therapist or be a licensed professional counselor, or licensed clinical social worker. 
  • One year post graduate experience working with emotionally disturbed children/adolescents and their families preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience implementing trauma informed care practices is preferred.
  • If unlicensed, the CPCT will sit for licensing as soon as their supervisory requirements are met, and within an agreed timeframe to be determined at time of hire.

Physical Demands:
  •  The CPCT must be able to drive and transport children in personal and/or AK Child and Family vehicles and must be able to access AK Child and Family and community buildings to attend meetings and agency activities. 
  • The CPCT must be able to respond timely to on-call duties on a rotating basis with the DCP, and other community programs clinical therapists. 
  • He/she must be able to complete AK Child and Family paperwork and assessments within a timely manner, use the copy and fax machine, complete reports on the computer and produce legible student records.
