Summary of Responsibilities:

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES*
$500 Sign-On Bonus upon hire as a full-time employee. Another two $500 bonuses over the following year.

This is a staff support position in the Purchasing Department.  The Purchasing Assistant will assist the Purchasing Manager in all purchasing and food service related responsibilities to include:

  • Inventory control,
  • Record keeping,
  • Meal planning,
  • Food/meal preparation,
  • Pantry organization,
  • Food safety
  • NSLP (National School Lunch Program) documentation.

All employees with AK Child & Family are required to be in compliance with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid COVID vaccine mandate. The mandate requires that by 2/14/22, staff at all health care facilities must have received their first dose of a 2-shot series (Moderna or Pfizer, currently) or a single dose of a 1-shot vaccine (Johnson and Johnson, currently) with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate. Staff must complete this step before they can provide any care, treatment or other services for the facility and/or its patients. By 3/15/22, all staff with the exception of those that have sought and been granted an exemption to the COVID mandate, must complete the primary vaccination series.

PAY:

  • $15.00 per hour
  • 3% pay increase after successful completion of 6-month Intro Period.
  • Annual raises are based on the annual budget and not guaranteed each year.

Supervision and Coordination of Services:

SUPERVISION AND COORDINATION OF SERVICES:

  • The Purchasing Assistant reports to the Purchasing Manager and works collaboratively with other staff personnel.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • This person must demonstrate the ability to maintain accurate written records of all purchasing (food & supplies) related records required by AK Child & Family and other government programs in computerized and written format.
  • Knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, is preferable.
  • S/he must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.

 
Education and experience:

  • The Purchasing Assistant must hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years experience in food purchasing, safe food handling procedures,  inventory control, and/or record keeping is required, preferably in food service.
  • Experience with meal planning and preparation as well as some knowledge of the  National School Lunch Program is preferred.

Physical Demands:

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  •  The Purchasing Assistant must have a valid Alaska Drivers license.
  • The Purchasing Assistant must be able to operate and safely drive AK Child & Family vehicles (to include 14 passenger van) in all weather conditions for food and supply shopping as well as pick-up requirements.
  • The ability to reach, stock, and issue foods and supplies from storage shelves up to seventy-four (74) inches in height is essential, and have the ability to lift and move boxes up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • S/he must be able to work in walk-in freezer, with temperatures ranging from 0 degrees to -10 degrees. The Purchasing Assistant must be at least twenty-one years of age.
